If you’re an intermediate rider coming to Derby, Vertigo’s Blue Tier + Atlas day is a MUST!

Kicking off at 9am, our shuttle will take you on a scenic drive through the rolling hillside of Tassie’s North East to the breathtaking sub-alpine mountain range of the Blue Tier. From there, riders will begin an epic journey through approximately 39 kilometers of remote wilderness singletrack with incredible scenery and world class trails to match. 

Starting in the high alpine, riders will descend through the all-time flow of the Blue Tier, passing through lush myrtle forest, dense eucalyptus trees and green mossy creeks. After 23km of 30% climbing and 70% descending – finishing with the ultimate gravity flow of Big Chook – the Blue Tier trail pops you out at the Weldborough Pub where you can purchase a delicious lunch before the next leg of the journey.

After a well-earned rest, a second shuttle will take riders to the Atlas trailhead. Geared towards tech enthusiasts, Atlas is a 16km advanced intermediate trail that undulates its way to an epic techy descent that flows into the Blue Derby network.

After the Blue Tier you can choose to take the shuttle to Atlas or take a return shuttle to Derby.

• Ride the Blue Tier to Weldborough (includes Big Chook)

• Purchase lunch at the historic Weldborough Pub

• Shuttle from Weldborough to the Atlas trail head

• Ride the Atlas trail right into the Blue Derby network, choosing between the flowing Dambusters Descent or take the Krushka link with options to tackle the famous EWS trails, Trouty or Cuddles, before ending the day in Derby.

Skill Level: Intermediate to Advanced

Novice option: Ride the Blue Tier, then return to Derby after lunch on bus

This Shuttle service departs from Derby for the Blue Tier trail.

The Blue Tier is a stunning ~ 22km mountain bike adventure trail, flowing down through sub alpine plains, Myrtle Beech forests, idyllic mossy rivulets, groves of giant tree ferns, flowing directly onto the epic section called Big Chook descent. 

Big Chook is the lower section of this trail with an all descending super flow berm, turns and jump line trail through deep Tasmanian temperate rainforest, finishing behind Weldborough Hotel where you may purchase lunch before shuttle return to Derby.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: 

Rider Level: MTB experience on Blue Trails is advised. For the coming season, this trail is rated at a low Blue level. This means you should be able to ride basic trail features and know when to dismount and walk if there’s something you don’t know how to ride. Be aware that you are riding in a remote location in Tasmania.

Not for beginners or first time MTB riders, as it is remote and emergency access can be difficult. We recommend you take an emergency beacon or utilise your Blue Derby app, smart phone app in case of serious injury.

Fitness Level: Moderate Fitness is a minimum

Booked a Hire bike from us?

Please collect your bike from the VertigoMTB shop located at 66 Main Street Derby from 8am (8:30am during winter months) on the morning of your hire. Allow time for us to set up the bike for you and supplied with appropriate ride equipment in our workshop.  We provide transport for you and hire bikes to the start of the Blue Tier Trail and return to Derby.

Beginner options in Derby just hit a new level for the 22/23 season with this fun and flowing, green descent trail, Hazy Days!  

Hazy Days is situated in the Derby network and offers the best slice of green, single track we’ve ever had. Descending berms and flowing sections through stunning terrain of tree fern and dense eucalyptus gullies, all the way back to the shuttle point.  

Ticket includes up to 4 uplifts each per session. 

Skill Level: Beginner to Novice

The Branxholm trail is the best trail in Derby to earn your first MTB stripes. This 9km ride is fun but gentle, introducing some trail features as you get used to your bike. The Valley Pond and riverside forest that the trail meanders through provide a wow factor with ferns, blackwoods and myrtles along with a chance to spot a platypus.

Our friendly shuttle driver provides tips and tricks on the Branxholm Oval before you head off on your ride.
